Picture in Picture (PiP) allows you to miniaturize a YouTube video stream or video call on Hangouts or Duo in the corner of your screen so you can perform other tasks simultaneously.

This is one of those "I did not know I needed this until I tried it" features and the one that makes multitasking much less a compromise than the split-window mode. We are delighted to see how this feature develops throughout the life of Oreo and beyond.

Faster start times

The Android update Oreo claims to speed up the startup time of your phone.
Fast startup times are usually associated with an increase in hardware, but Android Oreo will likely bring this benefit to all phones that run the software.

Although currently limited to Pixel and Pixel XL, the improvement is certainly perceptible and impressive.

This is a minor feature that most of us keep our phones turned on indefinitely. But for times when a restart is necessary, this feature makes it all the less painful.

Restricted background activities

This is an energy-saving feature that disregards application functions running in the background, which means your battery is likely to last much longer than on Nougat Android.

Combined with the likely improvements in the Doze function that intelligently saves the battery during downtime, it is possible that Android Oreo can help you extract a handful of overtime from your phone.

Contextual Hold Options

In an e-mail, try copying an address to paste it into Google Maps? No more, says Android Oreo.

By using automatic learning, the operating system can now recognize which application is best for the string with which you are working. Another example included being able to highlight a phone number and pop directly into the dialer.

Adaptive Icons

As the name suggests, Google has put in place strict design rules for developers to create a unified visual style for multiple applications.

In addition, these new application icons will be animated according to user interaction and ... have you seen the animation demo? Look for. It looks great.

It seems that Google has not yet released these clever icons, but I hope we expect them in the next update of Android 8.

Boosted audio performance

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is the first Android phone to be installed with Bluetooth 5, a technology that will expand the bandwidth and increase the speed limit in the wireless pipeline for your content to pass through and thereby improve the quality of audio content sent wireless connection between your phone and your headphones.

And while many devices will follow, the audio quality on Android will further increase thanks to the native support of Android Oreo for LDAC, Sony's high-resolution Bluetooth audio codec.

In the development options we already see tons of options to adjust the bit rate for audio and we expect more progress to come down the line. This one could be a big deal, especially for those who stand on buying in the best wireless headphones.

This is good news, especially since the Google Pixel 2 might not have a headphone jack.

Notifications Dots

An old gadget that has been hitting for years on iOS and some third-party launchers, which brings a notification bubble at a glance to application icons on the home screen as a native Android feature.

Unlike iOS, Android Oreo does not tell you how many alerts are waiting in a given application, but knowing how to direct your attention is a good thing.

New emoji

Google finally replaces the emoji gumdrop style of older versions of Android and is now making round face icons for Android Oreo.

There are also new emoji in the form of starstruck, vomiting, fairies, sirens, giraffes, wizards and even more options.

Easter egg

This would not be a new version of Android without a new mini Easter egg to try. Oddly enough, Oreo also comes with the Android Nougat's strange feeding mini-game.

But on Oreo, clicking and holding the OS logo takes us on a mysterious and empty screen with nothing but an octopus on it. This mini-game is pretty basic and not really a game at all.

You can pull the octopus around the screen, watching its legs float around. And that's all. This game was here before we learned about the soft name based on Android 8, so it can be configured to change now we know it's called Oreo. But again, maybe not.

Other features of Android Oreo

Google highlights a number of features with the Android Oreo update we've already seen, but that means we'll probably see more of each feature in the future.

Instant Android apps - a way to use apps without installing them and using your web browser - are compatible with Android 8. Expect more developers to support them soon.

Google also includes an automatic filling option in Android 8, so it will be faster to connect to some of your favorite apps.

There are new accessibility features, including simple audio controls and quick access from the navigation bar for features such as enlargement and Select to Speak.

In addition, there are even more features such as new downloadable fonts, background location limits, snoozing notification, a new Wi-Fi support feature, a support window called Tooltips, and categories notification to have more control over what you see.

Android Oreo is the official name for the next version of Google's popular mobile operating system, available for some devices.

In terms of key features, Oreo focuses on speed and efficiency. For many upgraded phones to Android 8.0, another name for Oreo, startup speeds will be increased up to twice, as we have personally seen with Google Pixel. In addition, updating the operating system tackles the pesky background activity that drains your battery and your data plan.

While it's clear about the visual changes, Oreo offers useful design settings, such as the PiP (picture-in-picture) for YouTube, Hangouts and others, and notification points that give you a boost colorful to check your notifications.

When can I download Android Oreo?

If you do not have Google Pixel, Google Pixel XL, Nexus 6P or Nexus 5X, the wait for Android Oreo is set to continue. For some phone manufacturers, this could take a few months, while others are much closer.

Companies are usually calm on this subject until there is good news to provide, but rest assured that we will update this page with the latest news.

Google itself has confirmed that the Oreo upgrade will reach the devices of many popular manufacturers by the end of the year. And although it does not call the particular phones by name, Google's official statement is:

"Hardware manufacturers including Essential, Mobile General, HMD Global Home Nokia, Huawei, HTC, Kyocera, LG, Motorola, Samsung, Sharp and Sony phones are programmed to launch or upgrade the Android 8.0 Oreo devices"

With this information we can safely guess that this includes (at least) essential phone, Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, LG G6, LG V30, Sony Xperia XZ Premium and more. You do not see your phone on this list? No need to worry for now.

Here are the confirmed phones to get the update.

Nokia

We have received an official confirmation that Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 will receive Oreo and shortly after we also heard that the Nokia 8 would also get the update.

 A real release date for the Nokia 8 for Android Oreo is unclear, but the beta version of the software is currently 1.3 GB, according to a tweet from Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer at HMD Global.

HTC

HTC confirmed that the HTC U11, HTC 10 and HTC U Ultra will understand Android Oreo at some point, but the exact time to update is not yet clear.

OnePlus

The OnePlus 5 is an obvious candidate, but OnePlus has also confirmed that the OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3 will receive the update.

Sony

The new Sony Xperia XZ1 and Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact will both launch Android Oreo as soon as they arrive this fall.


In addition, the company also upgrades the Sony Xperia X, Sony Xperia X, Sony Xperia XZ, Sony Xperia XA1, Sony Xperia XA1 and Sony Xperia XA1 Plus.

Motorola

Do you have a motorcycle phone? The company recently announced that it will launch this update this autumn on the following phones: Moto Z, Moto Z Force, Moto Z Z Force, Moto Z Play, Moto Z2 Play, Moto G5, Moto G5S, Moto G5S In addition, Moto X4 and Moto G4 Plus.
