Block Pornography On The Internet

sex

Faced with a flood of pornographic images of child abuse - often referred to as child pornography - available online, it may seem that you can not do much to protect your children, or yourself, against this type of content . This is not true.

Here are eight key tools and tactics to eliminate - or significantly reduce - the risk that you or your child would encounter pornographic material.

Eight tools to help block pornography on the Internet

1. Set up your search engine in "secure search" mode:

for Google users, go to http://www.google.com/familysafety/; Bing users go to http://www.bing.com/preferences.aspx; and, if you use another search engine, go to the security settings and look for this feature. If your child uses services like YouTube, make sure you have also set the "secure" mode on these platforms.

2. Use the family security tools provided by the operating system of your computer / other device:

The Windows and Mac operating systems provide security settings for the family.

3. Use Family Security Tool Services:

Sometimes referred to as parental controls, these tools allow you to set specific filters to block types of content that you find inappropriate. It's not just something to apply to young people; many adults prefer to filter pornographic and other content - such as hatred and violence. The relevance of certain types of content will change as children grow up; other types of content may still be unacceptable. To find the tools that best meet the needs of your family, look for parental controls or family safety tools.

4. Keep in mind that these tools must be installed on all devices your child uses to go online:

game consoles, mobile phones, tablets, personal laptops and computers. Some services have coverage for all types of devices, others are limited to computers or phones. You may find that using a single solution on all devices greatly facilitates your monitoring.

5.Check your child's browser history regularly.

There are a number of phrases that young people use to circumvent pornographic filters - such as "breastfeeding" and "childbirth" - and some slang terms quickly changing that filters may not have caught up. term for sex. If you see weird search terms, take a quick look at the sites.

6. Ask your children to restrict access to their social networking sites to only known friends and keep their site private.

Much of the pornography is shared between private albums on social networking sites.

7. Scan photos on your child's cell phone from time to time.

While the youngest children do not do sexting, by the time they hit their tweens, they have begun to engage in this type of behavior. Let your children know that from time to time you sit with them and browse the pictures they have stored on their phone.

8. Review the apps your child has downloaded to their phone or tablet.

Mobile content filters may not capture all potentially inappropriate applications.
You are your strongest tool. No technical blocking solution alone is enough to protect a child or young person against the discovery of online pornography. Have "conversation" with your children and spouse about the content that your family finds appropriate and inappropriate; this exchange should never be a one-off conversation.

Teens in particular may be reluctant to talk, but they listen to a lot more than you think. To learn more about your influence on the lives of your teenagers, see Psst! Parents! If you talk to your teenager, they will listen to you, and the USA Today article listens to them.
